The Plantar Fasciitis Community Will Help
Hi! I've been struggling with my feet for awhile now (I have plantar fasciitis, bunions and issues with my achilles tendons) and my doctor has been advising me to get new shoes as well as custom orthotics. Apparently, the shoes I currently own are not best for my feet and will not work with the orthotics. My problem is this: I'm 24 and care a lot about how I dress. I take care with my appearance and am not at a point in my life when wearing big orthopedic-type shoes is practical or preferable. Mostly what I wear these days is flats, which I know give my feet no support. I've scoured the internet for any shoe company making fashionable shoes that are also good for your feet, but they just aren't out there. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only young person with bad feet who is in need of some cute, comfy shoes!
I know I'm being silly and stubborn, but the bottom line is that I care about style more than I care about my feet and refuse to change. Has anyone found any shoe company making cute (affordable) good-for-you shoes that someone into fashion can confidently wear?
Thanks!
Vicki

I've gotten sandals from there and a pair of Crocs a few years ago from there. Otherwise, I wear Merrell black leather clogs, Ryka walking shoes/sneakers and one pair of Merrell Mary Janes I pretend are my dress up shoes.

Permalink Reply by Caroline Hall on February 8, 2012 at 1:22pm It was a thought. My mall has Comfort Shoe and and Walking SHoe COmpany (something like that) stores in it. Have you tried those kind of stores? Hope you can find something

I feel your pain. I cried at the store the time I had to buy my first pair of shoes my orthotics would fit in. I wear two pair of birkenstocks, one pair is a dress loafer and the other is a dress mule. They do not look like your standard birks so they look fine with jeans and dress pants. I do have some dress Chaco sandals for summer but other than being leather they are not that dressy. You are not the only young person that needs good shoes, but they just do not make cute shoes. One of the reasons is that that you really should not wear anything with a heel so that cuts the cuteness down a lot. Oh I have had my birks for 6 years and they still look great. So even though I got them for around $80 (on sale) they were worth it because they are still going strong. Sorry that there is really no good news when it comes to cute shoes for people who have foot problems. Cassie

Permalink Reply by Cassie Cramer on February 16, 2012 at 5:50pm I hope they have the support you need. I have found that Birkenstocks are the only shoes I can wear with out my orthotics. Good Luck!
