Plantar Fasciitis

The Plantar Fasciitis Community Will Help

I am awaiting a letter for consultation with a surgeon to look at having the release surgery.  I have as many of you know Fasciits in both feet, cortizone injections have failed. Also intense physio, 3 doctors, podiatrist and the physiotherapist are all of the opinion that this is the only option.

I am going to ask for the surgery on both feet at the same time. I have an apartment which is wheelchair friendly and a wife who supports what I will ask for. I am wondering whether the surgeon will refuse as it will be too painful...

My foot ortho wouldn't do both at once, even though I had it in both feet. He did the worst foot first, saying he's do the second foot when I was recovered from the first one. But the second foot felt better after the first foot had the release  (it had been compensating for the first foot) so I didn't get it done. However, it is still getting pains, but not as bad as it had been. I'm hoping it won't get so bad that I end up needing surgery for it.  I did the surgery too after everything else failed.

So don't be surprised if the answer to do both at once is a no, but then again, I could be wrong. It does leave you without literally a good foot to stand on, which is why I would think he'll probably say no, but again, I could be wrong:)

Woah, yeah, I would not do both at once. Even when you are out of the cast / boot you sill want a relatively sound foot to turn and pivot on, and lean on in the shower, etc. I am at almost 2 months out now, and while I do fine in shoes (spent all day on my feet today.) I really hate being barefoot (especially on hard surfaces..) and still somewhat dread getting in the shower for that reason. Even though the other foot has some pf, I am glad it is there to take the weight in the shower.

T.D.Sharkey-exactly! You need one non-surgical foot for sure! And barefoot isn't good.

And also, well, let's be frank, using the toilet and all that will be much easier if you are on crutches with one good foot.

Cheers folks,

I would still like both done even though I know full well it won't be easy, simply because I want to be fit for the olympics (not that I'm an olympian) I work in LONDON and I want to fit to do my job which I love.

How long is the recovery and the time between ops?

hmmm---I would say minimum of 8 weeks..that is where I am now, and, if I absolutely had to, could get my other foot done..
But, as we say here, your mileage may vary..
