Plantar Fasciitis

The Plantar Fasciitis Community Will Help

I've had plantar fasciitis now for about 3 months. I've been iceing regularly, sleeping with an orthotic for stretching, wearing heal cups in my shoes, and using a rolling pin before iceing to stretch my fasciitis. Also been taping my foot when I need to walk to any extent to take the load of my fascia. Started doing some of the stretches and strengthing exercises also. I have pretty much totally reduced the amount of time I spend walking/hiking but I'm not seeing great improvement. Can anyone tell me how long this might go on before I have a normal foot again? I have always been extremely athletic and this condition is really getting to me. Thanks.

Suffice to say that you will need to call on on the patience you can muster and keep doing the holistic remedies you are doing. Ice and stretch religiously, wear your orthotics, tape, swim instead of walking and keep reading all you can. I found a great myofacial release specialist in my area helps with the lessening of the adhessions on the bottom of the foot. Mine has lasted 11 months but finally feeling some relief. I, too, am an athlete and this condition is by far my worst injury in 56 years and I have broken bones, torn ligaments, concussed, blah, blah, blah. keep smiling, Joanne
Ross doesn't mention if he presently has pain or soreness. If he does, he should only do icing and light exercises - no stretching until painfactor is almost at zero. Then he can pass to your "phase two".

Hi Ross, please don't give up! i too was very athletic until PF. have you seen a good podiatrist? sounds like you have some knowledge of what to do but it's not working. i had my PF for over 8 yrs. look at my posts on this site and research a podiatrist who does ESWT, every person is different with what works for them. so many people have this and i know how painful it is. keep in touch.
Hi Kathleen - I cannot imagine having this for 8 years. . . I have had it bilaterally for 3 and as far as I am concerned, that is way too long! Have you had it consistently for 8 years or has there been some relief during that timespan? I, also, have done everything short of surgery - which I absolutely refuse to do! Icing, stretching, night boots, stay off feet, spent hundreds of dollars on numerous shoes, custom made orthotics, 3 rounds of PT, cortizone on bottom of foot (io something!), heel cups . . . on and on and on . . . it is ridiculous!
