The Plantar Fasciitis Community Will Help
So far it's been a breeze, all 6 hours since the surgery. I was taken into a prep roomm before the OR and got an IV and nerve block-and promptly fell asleep until I woke up in the recovery room casted and in no pain, feeling, actually, quite good. I know my foot is numb, but it's the least pain I've had in it since the end of March, lol. That will end later when the nerve block wears off, I'm sure. My foot orthopedist, who is a foot/ankle specialist, had told me prior to the surgery he'd probably be leaving the bone spur alone but after the surgery, he said it was so big, he thought it would be better to remove it. I haven't needed any pain medication yet but that wll probably change in the next 6 hours. I got to the outpatient surgery center a little after 7AM and I was back in my own bed, with my cat Stella (whom we call Nurse STella, since she's been my recovery assistant since my TKR revision in March) purring away and sleeping with me, by 10AM. I'm taking Nucynta for pain (once I need it) which is new to me for pain relief since I've taken other medications after my knee surgeries.
I am hoping this will be bring lasting relief for my right foot. My left foot still has it and unless it improves, will be having the same surgery when I'v recuperated enough from this one. My PF always returns when I've had knee replacement surgeries-all 3 times-and since I'm not planning to need any more of those, hopefully this will be the end of it.

Permalink Reply by Caroline Hall on March 3, 2012 at 6:52pm I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I'm taking Cymbalta, which is used for it, arthritis pain, chronic pain, and it's also an anti-depressant, although that's not why I'm taking it and I'm not taking the dose for anti-depression. I was diagnosed Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 28th) at my rheumatology office and was prescribed Cymbalta to start taking it that evening with dinner. I started with a small dose and have to double it on Tuesday dinner.
Permalink Reply by Caroline Hall on March 3, 2012 at 7:19pm Thanks. I'm sorry you had horrible pain when you went back to work. Hopefully when you think you're ready, your feet will cooperate.
Permalink Reply by Caroline Hall on March 3, 2012 at 7:25pm That incision takes a while to feel and even though I'm now 4 months out from the surgery, I occasionally got a pain there. I was at a point a couple of weeks ago that I really thought I needed to go back to my foot ortho about the foot that wasn't operated on, but this medication has taken care of that, at least for now.
