Plantar Fasciitis

The Plantar Fasciitis Community Will Help

Hi All, I know it's been a while since I've updated....but you know what they say, "no news is good news." I just wanted to let you all know that I am doing great since PF release surgery on April 13th, 2011.  It has been about 11 weeks since I had the procedure.  I'm not going to lie, it was a hard recovery, especially weeks 6-9.   As you may recall, I had been doing really well and my doctor took me out of the black boot, with instructions to start walking in sneakers.  I took two steps and tore my calf muscle and was put back on bed rest and was really uncomfortable. Three weeks later, I returned to the doctor.  My ankle was swelling, I was really anxious about my recovery.  I've read so many negative posts about people's experience with the surgery, my head was doing  a number on me.  When I was in her office, she looked over my foot, pressed on every ligament, twisted and turned it.....then looked me square in the eyes and told me that I was "babying my foot too much."  Initially I was very upset with her.  But after a lot of thought, decided to trust her.  The next morning.  I put my shoes on and haven't stopped walking since!  I have little or no pain.  Some mornings I wake up with a little soreness in my calf and foot, but once I stretch things out, I feel great. I know that she was absolutely right in what she said.  Like many of you, I know what it feels like to have hurting feet.  The thought that she wanted me to start using it more, scared me to death.  I over analyzed every single twing and tweek in my foot.  I was scared of the inflammation and worried that I was going to re-injure my foot, or that the surgery wasn't going to be successful.  Letting go of those fears and "breaking the habit" of being a patient, was really hard to do. I just wanted to let you know that I am doing really well after surgery.......that PF release surgery does work!

Yay!!!
I sent an email to you at work. How are you?
Glad to hear your news Kim. I'm doing OK too after my incursion with the laser therapy in Russia. My foot gets a little tired after a full day and I'm glad to put it up evenings, but that stabbing pain is long gone. I feel some sensation where the pain area was but I guess it takes time for that to sneak away.
Surgery was Friday, post op visit tomorrow.   The surgery itself only took 15 minutes.  He didn't have to cut the calf muscle like he thought.  I'm thankful for that but hope that I don't end up with the set back you had.  We'll see.  It's more difficult to get around on crutches than I thought.  My hands are killing me.  I don't have quite the support at home that I thought I was going to have, I'm doing a lot on my own. Pain level is manageable.  I was keeping to the every four hours routine until today.  Since I slept through a dose last night, I'm going to try to go a little longer between doses today if I can, but I'm no "John Wayne..."  I will take the meds if I need them, I won't fight my way through the pain.
I can't believe you haven't called me Linda!
I will call you some time today.  I have to take a shower (you know how long that takes) and run an errand today.
I'm 6wks post op...  glad things are on the up and up for you!  I've been in sneakers for about 4wks now... but the last couple of weeks, my toes have been hurting... doc did the same thing as you and twisted and pressed on my foot around the toes and that sent a positive chandelier of pain but the heel is good, no pain there... just confusing...  but any ways... glad things are good!  do you still get tired feet at the end of your day?

Kim, you may have stopped monitoring the discussions here; and quite understandable if you have, but I have some questions for you.

Hey :)  Sorry.....I've been busy.  Foots doing great!  Will be happy to answer any questions you might have

Hi Kim.  Glad to here your foot is doing great.  Are you back to all normal level of activity?  Are you running?

I'm still dealing with lateral / outside of foot pains and am now about 6 weeks out.  Even though I am trying not to, it seems like my weight is on the outside edge of the foot when I walk or stand...almost like that section of the foot is "lower" than it used to be?  The surgical site is only a tad tender, so I don't feel like I am favoring it in the slightest.  As a result, I am getting some soreness along the side of the foot in front of the heel, as well as the disconcerting feeling that my foot is just...different...and less functional than it used to be.

Admittedly, only six weeks out, right?  Anyone else experience this?

Yep.
